i think it was a carry-over from the star-spangled banner, the line "the bombs bursting in air". so each year we commemorate the war that won our freedom by lighting fireworks to remind us of how that freedom was won.

Somebody lit off a few firecrackers and bottle rockets outside the building where they doing the signing. It was a joke to kind of fool Ben and the rest that the British were attacking. Everybody flinched, but then kinda laughed and it’s been a tradition ever since. What I’m wondering is how grilling became a tradition vice say crock pot dinners.
