I’ve seen watermelon carved where they make it like a basket and then use a small knife to peel just a thin layer of the green rind off to create shapes. Something fun for the 4th would be like stars, hearts or USA. You could mark it with a Sharpie and then peel the thin green part of the rind thus exposing the white stars or words….Does this make sence? Happy 4th!

it looks great to see it shaped like a basket, with a handle, and a scalloped edge. arrange blueberries (big fat ones),crenshaw melon balls or honeydews, and strawberries or cherries in stripes for the old red-white-n-blue!

we carve the top off of ours (you can do it fancy like a star, or not, a simpl oval works) then scoop out the inside with an ice cream scoop/melon baller, and add that to canned or fresh fuit salad and serve the fruit salad inside the watermelon "bowl"

Carve it into something that you believe should be free. For example flowers/plants are free. Is July about being free/independent to do what you want? That’s exactly what flowers/plants do.

Use a stencil or make your own and then just use a sharp paring knife scrape off the outer layer of skin so it will show up well, or you can hollow out the melon and place a candle inside like with a jack o’lantern…. You can make some really beautiful designs, or could do it like a flag, or fireworks, or whatever you like. You can also do a search for pumpkin/ fruit carving and find some really great templates online that you can print off.
